I often have to split a file into a given number of pieces of equal size (except possibly for the last piece).  Could this be made an option to the "split" command?  Currently, this is done as
    split -l $(echo "$(wc -l < mifile)/5" | bc) myfile

Assuming this is a common operation, it would be nice to have it done as
    split -L 5 myfile

Thanks!
