This software is part of the GNU Project.

(decommissioned, see guix and gsrc) GNU Source Installer is a complete source packages management tool that automates configuration, installation, tracking and removal of source packages on modern Unix-like systems.

Its core functionality is provided by a shared library (libsrcinst),
that is used by two programs: a command line tool (sourceinstall),
and a gui (sourceinstall-gtk).

This is a tool intended for the user, not for developers: it has nothing to do with package creation.

Novice users should try the GUI first, where all the commands run
in the background are still visible in the included pseudo-console.

The program leverages on the GNU configure script and makefile conventions, so not all source packages can be handled by GNU Source Installer.

Details (job description, contact ...):

[Closed with permission of maintainer. -CB]

GNU Source Installer is releasing the 2.0 version of its components (libsrcinst, sourceinstall, sourceinstall-gtk).

However, this is still considered an alpha release, since some relevant milestones have still to be reached. One of these is good documentation.

Texinfo manuals and man pages are necessary for each of the components, and additional documentation is necessary to offer an overview of the architecture.

Contact the maintainer if interested.
