Attached patch adds the bindable function 'wherewas', which prompts for a string to be searched backward. ANd it modifies 'whereis' to search by default always forward.

In my .nanorc I have:

bind ^Q wherewas main
bind M-Q findprevious main
bind M-W findnext main

Now ^Q starts a backward search, ^W a forward search, M-Q repeats a backward search, and M-W a forward search.
