GNU Source Release Collection - alpha release

Item posted by Brian Gough <bjg> on Tue 29 Jun 2010 03:13:04 PM UTC.

The GNU Source Release Collection is a Ports system for GNU, using the GNU Make build system GAR. The idea is to provide a simple way for users to install the latest GNU packages on an existing distribution.

I've now committed build scripts for 227 GNU packages. Dependencies are handled automatically by GAR, for example if you build GPG, other packages like libgcrypt are automatically downloaded and built first. Information for a lot of the dependencies still needs to be added or corrected though.

Ultimately it should be possible to keep the latest gnu packages installed in your home directory by using 'bzr update; make all'

See the homepage for details on how to check out the current packages http://www.gnu.org/software/gsrc/

If you find a package that does not build, please send a patch to bug-gsrc at gnu.org. Contributors and ideas are welcome.
