New Feature: cross-reference project items

Item posted by Laurent Julliard <ljulliar> on Wed 16 Oct 2002 05:14:42 PM UTC.

To all Savannah developers,

Starting now, Savannah offers a little new feature which I think most of you will find very useful. It is now possible to cross-reference project items in follow-up comments.

When you post a follow-up comment on a bug, a task, a support request or a patch the simple fact of typing bug #XXX in the text will cause Savannah to automagically transform this text into an hyperlink pointing to the corresponding bug.

Possible syntax for cross-references are:

Bug #1234 : references bug id 1234
Task #456 : references task id 456
Sr #76 : references support request id 76
Patch #789: references patch id 789

As of today you can only cross reference items that belong to the same project. We may extend this mechanism in the future to cross-reference items from one project to another.

Hope you'll find this feature useful. I have implemented this for the CodeX platform at Xerox and our developers like it so much that I decided it was worth a try on Savannah as well.

Comments and Feddback welcome as usual

Laurent Julliard
