Table of contents -------------------- 2. Background ------------- - background and significance of the research - previous activity pertaining to the scope of the topic of the research (list of the research team's five most important publications in terms of the topic) - postgraduate studies performed in the research team 3. Objectives and methods ------------------------- - objectives of the research - hypotheses and research methods - schedule and intermediate objectives for the research - objectives in researcher training - ethical questions or data protection problems of the research 4. Results ---------- - research results to be expected and their significance - applicability of the research results and their potential exploitation - The proposed outline for the research plan is to be followed in relevant parts when the application concerns other than research or researcher training. However, the activity for which funding is applied for must always be described clearly, and a description of previous similar activity is to be given. The following special situatio ns are to be taken into account in the research plan: - as to research visits abroad and visits by foreign researchers, the time and pro gramme of the visit are to be given - as to research work or researcher training abroad, the foreign research team is to be described - as to researcher courses, seminars and international conferences, the purpose, participants, programme and budget are to be indicated - regarding international conferences, the time and place, the organiser (scientific society, organisation or the like) and the name of the conference, its topic, purpose, type and target group, the composition of the organising committee, as well as the estimate d numbers of foreign and Finnish participants, are to be indicated. A draft for the conference programme, a budget and a binding commitment from the site of the conference are also to be appended. The application must also indicate the other sources from which subsidy for the conference has been or will be applied for, or from which subsidy has been received. It is advisable for the researcher to investigate already at the research plan stage whether the research might generate inventions which could further b e exploited commercially. It is also advisable to investigate the rights and obligations of the inventor within the research team and with the cooperation partners and the funder of the research. The potential invention is not to be described in the re search plan before the filing of a patent application.
