Would it be possible to make the balloons completely transparent in the Qt version?

Ok, so we postpone the decision of how to display them.

Note however that the problem with the grey area is also present in the WidKit version and is related to the size_hint() returned by box_widget_rep (this is out of the top of my head, however).

Yes, there are still some issues concerning when and where precisely to activate the help balloon. This has to be done with some care and there might actually be several options.

Notice that there is still one small unperfectness concerning the Qt implementation: the balloon is surrounded by some grey area; it would be better if could end exactly at the black strokes of the help balloon tag. The drop shadow is OK though.

This tag is now implemented in Qt.

However there are issues common to WidKit and Qt:

  • The balloon is activated whenever the cursor hovers over the whole vertical column delimited by the tag. ┬┐Some problem with the <link> tag?
  • The balloon is designed to disappear too soon. In most other UIs it's displayed as long as the cursor doesn't leave the region where it may be activated.

**I propose to use the tree-bounding-rectangle as a region where the balloon will stay active. This is the standard practice and in my opinion more convenient.
**I can make all the necessary changes to scheme, glue and elsewhere to implement this in Qt and keep the old behavior in WidKit.

Comments?

There now is a tag 'help-balloon' for content with a help balloon attached to it. However, this does not work in the Qt version.
