Gnash makes no effort to send invoke onMetaData from anything which is not an FLV (which in turn explicitly contains a request to invoke "onMetaData").

As best I can tell, youtube is using the 'moovposition' metadata property embedded in the MPEG-4 container file to determine where the seek bar should be. When a 'seek' is performed, youtube downloads a new movie file which would have a different moovposition.

Apparently onMetaData gets exposed this information from the MPEG-4 metadata, according to:

http://www.brooksandrus.com/blog/2007/08/29/a-quick-look-at-h264-metadata/

Though none of the metadata parsers for MPEG-4 containers that I have tried actually show me the moovposition property from the video streams from the video in this bug.

It seems that with these videos youtube plays from a new NetStream URL when a seek is attempted. It seems to me that Gnash accurately reports the position in the new file that's downloaded, which would be why the time bar indicator moves to the start position.

Thanks, will use this bug to track the time bar issue. Other bugs have already dealt with the aborts.

Playing either [1] or [2] it doesn't crash anymore, neither with ffmpeg nor with gst (from cli).

Though time bar still sucks. Same behavior explained when submitted bug.

Gabriele, could you please try reproducing the crash(es) with master?

(I don't expect the 'time bar' to work correctly.)

This one [2] is a 15" video that crashes at ~10" with ffmpeg and freezes at ~12-13 with gst.

Two unexpected behaviors watching [1] (maybe even others)

a) if you move time bar, player seeks and play from new position, but pointer goes back to start.
b) when video completes, plugin crashes.
