Forwarding the following bug report from the Maxima bug tracker, in which it is bug report # 1177085. Incidentally it seems like temporary file names want to be created by mkstemp or something like that. Just a guess.

-------------- begin quoted text --------------
Compiling a Maxima function using GCL produces a
file "gazonk.lsp", where = 0,1,...999. These are
just junk files, but they are never deleted. Once there
are 1000 gazonk files, you'll get something like

(%i1) quad_qag(sin(1/x),x,0.1,1.0,6,20000);
Maxima encountered a Lisp error:
1000 gazonk names used already!
Automatically continuing.
To reenable the Lisp debugger set debugger-hook to nil.

The only way to fix this is to manually delete the files.
