Thanks for the response. Recently I installed from a .deb without problems in a fresh install of Budgie 18.04, so it clearly was a problem with the dependencies. Sorry for not providing more detailed information on this bug.

TeXmacs do not work well yet with Guile 2, this seems to be the source of the problem. You have usually to install Guile 1.8. I close this bug, since seems to be due to a wrong building setup.

I think it is better to install the .deb package if you are using Debian or Ubuntu. But for the moment, no debug symbol is available, but the maintainer is already informed how to build a package with debug symbols: you can see that there is a pull request: https://build.opensuse.org/project/requests/home:DenisRx:TeXmacs

Did you install the prebuilt .deb for Ubuntu linked on the webpage you mention, or did you install from the static .tar.gz package as you were used to do?

You can have a try to run with '-d' parameter to catch more debug infos. Moreover, I believe that later developers will offer debug symbols so that you can load TeXmacs with gdb to see exactly where the code crashes.

Hello and Thanks for TeXmacs,
I have been using it for a while and never had a problem with the installation procedure described [here](https://www.texmacs.org/tmweb/download/unix.en.html). Today I downloaded TeXmacs into a fresh Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 system, created respective link and when running texmacs I got a message after the font setup procedure
"
In expression (when (buffer-newly-created? #) (use-modules # #) ...):
/home/david/TeXmacs/progs/init-buffer.scm:14:1: Unbound variable: when

[1]+  Segmentation fault      (core dumped) texmacs
"

Now, when I run texmacs I get a similar message
"

Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 72: non-double matrix element

Do you have any suggestion? maybe a missing package?

Thanks.
