Motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-B250M-D3H-rev-10
keyboard used via PS/2 connector
Booting UEFI mode
Same problem with openSUSE Tumbleweed, openSUSE 15.0alpha, and Debian Stretch versions of Grub 2.02.

To reproduce:
1-hit e key to edit a menu selection
2-hold down right or left shift key
3-type ROOT with other fingers

Actual result:
1-Root

Expected result:
2-ROOT

Workarounds are to press and release shift key for each wanted keystroke, or to use CAPSLOCK.
