Is this bug still present?  I could change crash.tm to "paper" mode without a crash in revision 12376.

Please re-open if you still experience a crash.

P.S.: it is true that editing is a bit slow.
Please open a separate bug if you manage to track down
what causes the slowness.

As the definition of doc-data is an extern function:
  <assign|doc-data|<xmacro|args|<extern|doc-data|<quote-arg|args>>>>
I don't think it can easily be substituted

I have altered the summary to hint that doc-data scheme macro may be critical to this

Philippe, I appreciate your attention.

I carefully resisted reducing the document to the point at which the bug no longer occurs, otherwise there would be nothing to investigate.

In your simplification I think that you have replaced the call to doc-title with the definition of doc-make-title, and this is not a valid substitution, it's not the same macro.

I backed out a similar reduction when the bug was no longer triggered.

I hinted this in my previous message where I listed necessary elements to re-produce it.

"<doc-data|<doc-title|Qui dolorem ipsum >>"

I haven't found anything to suggest that it is not a typesetter problem; I certainly don't believe that a bug in macro definitions could cause the observed behaviour.

Ok, shorter is definitely better for debugging. You have not yet reached the bare minimum, though:

<doc-data|<doc-title|<no-indent><new-page*><superpose|<move|<clipped|<image|<tuple|<raw-data>|ps>|21cm|||>|||21cm|16cm>|-3cm|-8cm>|<move|<image|<tuple|<raw-data>|ps>|4.93cm|||>|10cm|-21cm>|Qui dolorem ipsum><new-page><right-flush>>>

and... the issue is gone! So it seems your issue is actually linked with using macros...!?

One should now try to figure which macro def is causing the issue. And once this is done, the bug summary should be revised.

I haven't found any preference setting to use the new typesetter and so have not set this.

I attach a 28 line document which demonstrates the problem.

  <doc-data|<doc-title|Qui dolorem ipsum >>

is still required to make it crash, so are both graphics.

All the 3 problems still exist, including the very slow document editing

Thank you for reporting here, which is more convenient than the mailing list for keeping track of issues and monitoring progress.

However, I insist that this is absolutely NOT a SIMPLE document if the purpose is debugging. Could you please eliminate everything that is not necessary to manifest the bug (all macros, extra figure, superfluous text, title, whatever it takes!). If, as you suggest, it is a typesetting problem, then one should not need to define any macro to provoke the bug. Ideally the bug report should reduce to describing a few operations in a blank document that lead to the occurence of the problem.

If you think this is asking too much work from you, you should realize that it will require even more work from anyone else who has not authored that document and who'll first need to figure the logic of your macros to get rid of them.

Also you say this is maybe related to #49162. Did you try changing the preference regarding the use of the new typesetter?

Possibly duplicaye of #49162

Try this document in latest TeXmacs HEAD.

1. Try changing Document, Page, Screen Rendering to paper, and the document will be cleared from memory with a C stack trace and scheme stack trace on the launching terminal window.

The resolution seems to be to amend the logo-foot macro and change the y movement from 21cm to 1cm, so I think the error is that texmacs can't cope with a movement out of the rendering area.

2. Reload and try ctrl+P to generate PDF and the UI will freeze leaving a stack trace in the terminal window.

possibly the same bug as above

3. And otherwise editing the document is perniciously slow. That slowness can be removed by moving the preamble into a style file, but it still seems very wrong.
