Sorry, I forgot about this bug.
The issue described here should have been fixed as part of the patches for bug #49118.

Version 4.2.0 is deprecated and no longer supported.  Please try with the latest stable release which is 5.1.0.  The problem is likely to have been fixed.

This sounds like a duplicate of bug #49118. The scope moved to Windows around comment #31 there.

I'll leave this bug open, in case we want to close bug #49118 (all original issues seem to be fixed) and move the Windows errors here.

When I select "Create" from the dialog there is a error message:
Could not open file <path> for write: Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden..

(last part ist german for "path not found")

After hitting "ok" the file is untouched and no other file is created.

the above happens when there are umlauts in the folder name and filename.

when I try to open a file with umlauts in a path without umlauts it opens a new editor file with a wrong character instead of the umlaut. this file then can be saved but the same error occurs when reopening it. but then can't be opened:
error: edit: could not create Y:\<path>\t?st.m
error: unhandled execution exception -- eval failed

"(Try it on a test file that you don't want to lose.)"

Don't want to SAVE, ehem.

When you select "yes" to create the file, what happens?  (Try it on a test file that you don't want to lose.)  Is the file overwritten with a new, empty file?  Is a new file created with some name close to the original but without the umlauts?  Is there an error coming back from the OS?

As of version 4.2.0 I'm unable to open files containing special characters, i.E. ü, ä, ö.
The error message reads as follows:

File /päth/tö/file.m
does not exist. Do you want to create it?
[create] [cancel]

The special characters arent displayed correctly, they show as a square with a ? in it.

Opening the same file with 4.0.3 works without any problems.
