No response from OP in over 6 months, closing inactive bug report as invalid.

I am inclined to agree with Peter. It's not an abomination, but there's something unaesthetic about it. Perhaps it is because the blue disk suggest perspective whereas the squares are drawn face on. The orange is also a bit garish.

If there are concerns about changing the logo completely, I would suggest the intermediate solution of removing the squares. Just the inclined blue disk (or some variation on it) would, I think, look neat.

My vote: keep the current one.

I'm thinking of all the cosmetic changes in Firefox Australis, MS Ribbon, Unity, Windows8, that basically pushed me onto Debian + Palemoon + Libreoffice. And Octave for that matter :)

Plain vanilla please.

I think we need some confirmation from the OP (right icon? decent resolution?). This honestly surprises me, I think the Octave logo is much more attractive than the icons of many other projects out there.

Peter, is this the icon you're referring to?

I happen to like the existing logo so I think survey work should start first to see if a change is needed and, if so, what direction.

Do you have a link to the survey results? I would like to see what people are thinking.

It's only about 4 years old, but I suppose in today's fast-moving logo world, that's already ancient. One thing we could do is make it monochromatic and less detailed, as that seems to be the natural trend for logo evolution.

Can you help organise this?

Just to be clear, which icon are you talking about?

Hi guys,

I don't think I'm the only guy who thinks the current icon is ugly. Octave is a great software and it deserves a more attractive icon/artwork than what it has now.

Do we have any resources to modernize it? Something like an artwork contest?

Best
Peter
