I doubt this is a bug. I have a hunch about what you are experiencing. You said " I had an easy gammon but it had 2 chances to move it's last counter out of my inner board and didn't do so. The cube was at 4 and I got 8 points".

My question is this. What was the match length you were playing to? And was the 8 points you were given enough to win the match?

Ok, well in that case it was a bug that it didn't count it. :D  The odd thing was the AI didn't even attempt to avoid it.  I had an easy gammon but it had 2 chances to move it's last counter out of my inner board and didn't do so. The cube was at 4 and I got 8 points rather than 12.  But I haven't been able to duplicate the bug since then...

GNUBG counts triple games (also known as BackGammons) and Double games (also known as Gammons). Double and triple games are actually the norm, so it is actually standard to count them. Since they are a part of the standard Backgammon, and that is how GNUBG plays there is no option to turn them off.

You'll need to provide more information about the type of positions where you see this or you can save a match/session as an SGF file and attach it to this bug report for me to make a definitive answer.

Ok, I realize it's popular to not count these, but since they officially are part of the rules (and since gnubg includes several options which are not), I'm quite surprised and slightly annoyed that they aren't even an option in the game.
