Closing, as there is no news and no reproduction recipe.

Any news on this, Jerald?

The character " shouldn't be in any way special.  Is your keyboard maybe configured to have dead keys, like a dead double quote?

Is your strace about a case where nano actually messed up?

When I compare your strace with one of mine, I notice the SA_RESTORER flag in for example "rt_sigaction(SIGTSTP, {SIG_IGN, [], SA_RESTORER, 0x7fa25c6fd9a0}, NULL, 8) = 0".  Is that normal on your architecture?  Which architecture is it?

If you can, please build from SVN.  By default it will install to /usr/local, and you can make uninstall afterwards.  And you don't even need to install, you can just run src/nano from the source tree, maybe make a temporarry alias.

I have not found a way to reliably reproduce this sadly.

I notice it more when editing a "complex" file like httpd.conf

I can try the version, however this is the version centos 6.5 is sending out and I don't like modifying my repos from the base on my servers.

You can set this "needs info" or the like while I find steps to reproduce, and test on the latest version.

What do you mean with mess up?  Does the display get garbled?  Does a ^L not fix that?  Or does the file itself get damaged? Do you maybe have a small example plus a sequence of keystrokes that reliably reproduces the effect?

Your version is rather old.  Can you try with 2.2.6 or SVN to see whether it is maybe already fixed?

Using nano and pressing backspace can cause nano to mess up.

I've included an strace, however I was my strace foo is limited so I couldn't get much from it.

It appears to only happen after a special character such as "

 [~/www]# nano -V
 GNU nano version 2.0.9 (compiled 07:18:28, Nov 12 2010)

stock from yum centos 6.5

Please let me know if you need anything else
