I don't fully understand all the issues with printing plots in Windows and the interactions described by Philip, but closing as "works for me" as suggested. If this problem is still present, please feel free to comment again or reopen this bug.

I just tried this & the sequence in bug #42060 in a freshly built & installed 3.8.1 on WinXP (MXE-cross-built).

After clicking the print button on the gnuplot window, or the "Options|Save as EMF" dialog, gnuplot freezes (Octave doesn't).
Then, after entering a "close" command in Octave, gnuplot revives and I get a file dialog (this bug) or a few print dialogs (bug #42060).
As to printing, that's about it. No print ever appears, not even my default print preview window.
As to saving an EMF file, that works for me.

But then it occurred to me to add the ghostscript \bin subdir to the PATH (note to the OP: gs should be in a path w/o spaces).
Then after restarting Octave, printing worked OK as well.

The only glitch is that gnuplot freezes until -I suppose- the pipe to gnuplot is terminated.

So I think this bug can be closed with a "works for me" or maybe even an "invalid".

Note that Tatsuro mentioned a while ago that gnuplot in MXE has been built w/o (IIRC:) wxt or cairo support (can't find his post). Could that be related?

Thanks for clarifying. As I said, I can't test on Windows at the moment, but note that the recommended way to save plots in Octave is to use the print or save commands in the Octave interpreter itself, not in the gnuplot window. I don't know whether this is expected to work when using gnuplot from Octave on Windows.

The original report was for Win XP using GNU Plot. Which otherwise seems to run perfectly.

Marking as "works for me" based on comment #2. I can't test in Windows at the moment.

Can the OP clarify whether the failure to save the plot was with the gnuplot or fltk plotting backend?

Hi. This doesn't occur to me. I tried
plot(1:10,sin(1:10));

And then, I could either save it as png or pdf, without any crash or error you guys mentioned.

FYI,
OS: windows 7 64bit,
Octave: 3.8. (mxe build 3.8.0-5-portable)

For me, on Windows 7 x64 with FLTK plot window this causes a crash of Octave (mxe build)(Octave is immediatly closed).

Windows XP - Make a plot, press Save As on the plot GUI, the dialog loads properly, select a file and path, say save and... Nothing. No crash, but no plot is saved on the disk either.
