I suspect since you have found the issue this may not be useful now, but I tried saving the midi file and this casues the crash as well. (Windows XP).
I'll retest when 0.8.8 release for windows becomes available.
Thx,
Rog

I have pushed a fix to git, I think this will have to be put into the 0.8.8 release, for windows.

assertion saved!=NULL at line 604 of smf_save.c
I'll look into this.

Thank you for your response.
With the file that causes the crash:
Can you try File->Save As
 choosing the type .mid or .midi
Then, if this works try and play the resulting midi file.

Sorry - should have been more specific...
Denemo crashes. It does not seem to matter which application I use to play the midi file. Using the following:

C:\timidity\timw32g.exe
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe

both caused the crash.

Leaving the external midi text box empty and pressing F5 to play from denemo pops up the Could Not find Program dialog box, but Denemo does not crash.

Let me know if you need any more information. BTW this did not happen with a previous version of Denemo on Windows so I guess it was probably introduced via some new midi code.

What crashed? Denemo or Timidity?
Does that happen with windows media player?

It played ok on timidity on linux. I noticed a message from timidity about the honky tonk:

Format: 1  Tracks: 2  Divisions: 384
Sequence: VoiceI
Instrument: acoustic grand
Track name: VoiceII
Instrument: honky-tonk
No instrument mapped to tone bank 0, program 3 - this instrument will not be heard
Playing time: ~12 seconds
Notes cut: 0
Notes lost totally: 0
Parent: child exited, pid = 21905, exit status = 0

Denemo 0.8.6 Win Tue Jun 30 10:30:14 GMTST 2009

Windows XP

Playing the score via timidty++ on Windows XP sometimes casues a crash. It seems to happen when you have a stave with chords and select certain midi instruments.

Attached is a simple test case that casues the crash.

Best regards,
Rog
