Fixed in release 7.4
Specifically the fix in gnulib was:

That looks like a bug alright, or at least an error in the docs.

I'm not sure if this is the intended action but;
using the following command when today is Sunday:

date --date="next Sunday"

shows todays date rather then next Sunday.
