I've tested it with current version and it seems to show windowlist, so one can choose window to open, maybe better solution would be to leave it empty.

In socket.c in FinishAttach() comment out
display_windows(1, WLIST_NUM, (struct win *)0);
to do so.

The issue is in the detach-attach code-path.

One can trigger this w/o the need to lock the screen.
To reproduce:

$ screen
C-a :layout save default
C-a |
C-a <TAB>
C-a d
$ screen -r

Has anyone had a chance to look into this?

When one creates a new region (via horiz or vert split), focuses the new windowless region, and locks the screen (C-a x), upon successful unlock, the windowless region retains focus and inherits the window of the original region.

To reproduce:

$ screen
C-a :layout save default
C-a |
C-a <TAB>
C-a x
<unlock with pw>
<ENTER>

Notice both regions now display the same output and the "windowless" has focus.
