Installed the software on another machine and the package loads perfectly.

I still do not understand what the issue is with my computer, but I am simply using remote desktop for the time being.

I think it is safe to say this is not software related anymore, I am fine closing this bug.

Thanks for the support,
Fabrice

In 4.0.0 for Windows the included io package was crippled just by accident.

Indeeed, if even 4.0.1-rc3 crashes there may be something wrong outside Octave. Given that there must be many many Octave-4.0.0 on Windows installations just working (we don't hear that much complaints about crashes like yours) I think it is wise to try some other PC.

New problem,

Typing "pkg load io" into the command window crashes the software. I am tempted to try this on a different computer at this point.

I installed 4.0.1-rc3. I think I will stick with this install for now, the io package plus more shows up with 'pkg list'.

I forgot to mention that I tried reinstalling 4.0.0 without success. I could still try installing an image or tsa..

I am curious why some of these packages are not included with the install of octave 4.0.0? Or is this the direction the software is headed(with regards to 4.0.3-rc3)?

I know this 'bug' is not fully solved but I appreciate the help,
Fabrice

That sounds bad.
IIRC io-1.0.9 was a release w/o binary modules, so I suspect there's something wrong with the compiler stuff in your Octave installation.
Could you try installing another OF package with binary modules? like image or tsa ?

Alternatively, you could try to install Octave-4.0.1-rc3 from here:
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave/octave-4.0.1-rc3-installer.exe
That has a complete io package inside (in 4.0.0 it is crippled).

In the end you could try to simply reinstall octave-4.0.0. The apparently broken build chain in your Octave installation seems ominous.

Sourceforge. Directly off the octave page with the list of packages.

When i try:

more off;
pkg install -forge -verbose io

The software still crashes.

I was able to install io-1.0.9.tar.gz

I have tried I/O packages 2.2.8, 2.2.10, 2.2.11 without success.
Thanks.

At comment #2:
"pkg install io-2.4.0.tar.gz"

That should be good; but as it doesn't work, where did you get io-2.4.0.tar.gz from?

Could you try:

more off;
pkg install -forge -verbose io

and report back, please?

BTW, which "older" io package that "did not include it" were you referring to?

All I want to use is the xlsread function. The older I/O package did not include it.

Could someone reply with the function attached? Or paste the code...

Thanks.

No message,

The application completely shuts down.

I get the classic:

" octave-gui.exe has stopped working"

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. "

And how does it "crash"? Please add the exact message you get.

I used the command:

pkg install io-2.4.0.tar.gz

Thank you.

Exactly how did you install io? (exactly what commands did you enter?
