If my understanding is right, then this bug just concerns LaTeX command emulation using keyboard shortcuts such as '\mathbf return'.

There was indeed a problem with mathematical font properties, since 'new style fonts' have become the default.
I (hopefully) fixed the problem in revision 12374.

Alright. I don't know much about Latex (that's why I use texmacs). In anycase if you import a \mathbf{x} latex construct it becomes <math-bf|x> which displays bold upright, if that's what you want. Typing \math-bf instead of \mathbf works too.

Now, I don't understand how this works or should work, so I don't even know what needs to be fixed:

-Should one generally expect that typing \mathbf (or any common Latex command) should yield the same as importing it, or not necessarily?

-why doesn't <with|math-font-series|bold| > yield bold, anyway?

I change the title to better describe the problem

I typed "$" then "\mathbf" and then "Set".

Present menus and key bindings would yield the markup <math|<with|font-series|bold|Set>> (no math- prefix). I guess math font is implicitly selected inside math. How did you get your markup? From an old file?

Bold looks the same as regular font in math.

Increasing view zoom does not help.

It seems that this worked with earlier versions of TeXmacs.

The .tm file and the screenshot are attached.

I also reprise it here:

<TeXmacs|1.99.2>

<style|generic>

<\body>
  <math|Set>

  <math|<with|math-font-series|bold|Set>>
</body>

<initial|<\collection>
</collection>>
