The behaviour is indeed counterintuitive, but I do not really see the point of using a preamble in source style.  This style is really used for style files in which case the main document is some kind of preamble on its own.

For this reason, I am not going to do anything about this problem.

A note about the origin of the joint file:

The "initial" block comes from a file generated by the editor in "generic style" mode. The file joint with the report comes from removing irrelevant parts of the original document while keeping the strange behavior.

In the original file there is a bibliography, I don't know if it is why it ended up with an "initial" block near the end.

If I open the following file content with TeXmacs, the "assign" inside the "hide-preamble" does not appear in the editor. Moreover when typing '\' and 'a' insiede the "hide-preamble" block, the cursor unexpectedly goes just before the "hide-preamble" block .
In particular, it is impossible to type "\assign" in the "hide-preamble" block.

When the "initial" bloc at the end of the file is removed from the file, the behavior comes back to normal: the "<assign|testas..." appears in the "hide-preamble" and typing '\' followed by 'a' does not change the cursor position abruptly (and it is possible to enter "\assign" again).
