I have pushed changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/b2c4d6d461f0
which fixes the issue on my system.

This also occurs on my fedora box, so isn't only a windows thing.

ok - I see that.

It appears that when using the keyboard to navigate menus, the focus toggles between editor and main window each time the menu is used.

It occurs for all menus.

It also occurs in 3.8.2rc2

Hi John.

I try to use the keyboard whenever I can.

The following examples are repeatable.

If the editor is in focus by the mouse being clicked in the editor window, pressing ALT+F+S will open the editor File menu and save the file. If Alt+F is performed immediately, without doing anything else, the main window File menu is activated.

If the mouse is clicked in the editor window then moved outside the editor window, an Alt+F activates the main window File menu, even if the mouse has not been clicked outside the editor window.

If the mouse is clicked inside the editor window and Alt+F is pressed, then an escape is pressed to remove the menu, a subsequent Alt+F will open the main window File menu.

I hope this helps.

David

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that if you haven't clicked in the edit window (given it focus) and you select Alt-F-S, it doesn't save the editor file?

If so, isn't this correct behavior? You are trying to select an option on the main window that doesn't exist.

When saving a file from the editor using the keystrokes Alt+F+S, the main menu File menu is in focus instead of the editor File menu.
