This is one of several problems with auto-correct and brackets. These are now more generally covered by bug # 45614, so marking this one as duplicate.

Entering the formula |a+|b|| is buggy.

If I type « $|a+| », the cursor go away due to auto bracket. Ok, this is normal.

If I type « $|a+ » and insert "||" from menu, the cursor go away due to auto bracket. Maybe it should not.

If I type « $|a+ » and insert an "opening |" from menu, the cursor go away due to auto bracket. It should open a delimiter.

If I type « $|a+<Alt>l| », the result is the same.
