The bug is no longer present. As far as I can see, it was fixed a little later, in gtkprefs.c rev 1.190 ("Save board preferences when clicking "OK" on the board appearance configuration dialog.")

Confirmed. A clumsy workaround is to use the "View" pull down menu select "Panels>" then put a check beside "command". There should be a command text box that appears in the bottom right of the main window. Once you change the board appearance, enter this into the command box:

save settings

and hit <enter> . Exiting GNUBG and returning should restore all the board appearance settings.

GNU Backgammon does not save any GUI settings.

No matter wich settings are chosen in "Board Appearance", restarting the program will always display default settings.
