This would play very badly with localisation, with layout adjustements and with long-term evolution. It would encourage people to write scripts which will rely on particular output presentation of different commands, something that we wouldn't want to set in stone. Such scripts are also likely to break if language isn't English. Commands which output is worth capturing have facilities to save the relevant info in variables (if some doesn't it's to be reported on a per-command basis).

Grub scripting support is quite powerful as it is, but lacks the ability to capture command output to variables.  This is a feature request for said command output capturing.  Combined with the already-existing 'regexp' and 'test' capabilities, this would enhance Grub's scripting capabilities considerably and prove quite useful.
