Oh, I did't notice that it was in fact a crash:

texmacs.bin: ./Plugins/Widkit/Basic/basic_widget.cpp:124: void basic_widget_rep::handle_attach_window(event_ptr<attach_window_event_rep>): Assertion `false' failed.

I don't know whether it is a related or a separate bug, but a similar problem occurs on linux.

To reproduce:
1. Start texmacs from the command line with "texmacs file1.tm file2.tm". This opens two windows.
2. Go to the window with file1.tm and type "Some Important Data".
2. Go to the window with file2.tm, and from the File menu, select Close Document.
3. Both documents close, TeXmacs exits, and your Important Data is lost.

Note that you have to type the Important Data in file1.tm, and then close file2.tm. Doing it the other way round does not hit the bug.

This is not related to command-line handling, as you can alternatively hit the bug by only using the View -> Open New Window menu (though it is harder to describe).

I have tested this on Linux and Windows. Windows doesn't seem to be affected.

Affected version:
http://www.texmacs.org/Download/ftp/tmftp/generic/TeXmacs-1.0.7.19-x11-i386-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz

Unaffected version:
http://www.texmacs.org/Download/ftp/tmftp/windows/TeXmacs-1.0.7.19-installer.exe

The problem you describe does not occur on linux and windows (I only tested the Qt version).

Both in WidKit and Qt, under MacOS:

  • Launch TeXmacs
  • Clone the window
  • Click on the old window's red button to close it, without focusing on it (i.e. while it's on the background)
  • The new window closes.

If on the other hand you give focus to the old window, then you close, the right window is closed.
