Actually, I must say that I was wrong in my conversation with the submitter on IRC.  :)  Looking at the functionality in Gorm, it works as follows:

Basically, the user creates a standalone view (such as an NSBox) by instantiating it in the classes outline view.  This adds the view to the top level objects.  In order to display this view it needs a "temporary window".   The purpose of this window is to serve as a means to manipulate the size of the view and to display it.

So this is not, per se, a bug that you can't resize the standalone view all by itself.  It would require the window to shrink since.   BTW, IB on MOSX also works this way according to my tests.

I will reopen this bug if it seems as though people want to be able to resize the view itself instead of the containing window.

"<bheron> To resize the view..you need to change the size
of it's containing window.
<bheron> I should implement something which says that if
the view changes size it will update thecontaining window.
<bheron> the window is, of course, not saved in the .gorm.
<bheron> but the view still needs to update it when it's
modified.
<bheron> Good catch.
<bheron>Could you write this up in a bug on Savannah so I
can track it?
[msg(bheron)] ok"

Done :)
