this should be fixed in texi2html. When there is a `@ ' at the end of a string, the number of @ preceding the `@ ' are counted and if they are an odd number, the space is kept.

I also tried to improve similar 'protections' of characters by @-commands, like @: @, @<TAB> @; where the characters : , <TAB> means something (mostly in @node and menu entries).

fine on @: but i still don't agree on "@ ", sorry. the alttext arg is supposed to be texinfo text, and "@ " is a reasonable command to have there. just because it happens to be at the end of the string is no reason for the processors to mess up parsing it, seems to me.

I think that the fact that @image{,,,@ } gets unrecognized cmd is not a bug, and even the right thing. I think that it is more logical to remove spaces before @-commands expansions.

@: is treated as an empty alt in texi2html, this looks good to me.

@image{,,,@ } gets unrecognized cmd, presumably because the trailing whitespace got chopped before the command got parsed.

@image{,,,@:} produces bad XML output, the > on <alttext is missing.

see texinfo-pretest msgs from gildea, dumas, 19mar04.
