Thanks. You should let your professor know that the wavwrite function is part of Octave now, no need to install the audio package. Also that the wavwrite function has been marked as deprecated and you should be using the audiowrite replacement function now, which is also part of Octave and is Matlab compatible.

I'm not sure if any future updates of the audio package will happen, but it's essentially obsolete now as all of the useful functions have been added to core Octave since version 4.0.

Closing this bug as invalid.

It is for an assignment- the graduate program in acoustics at penn state, a suggestion in the assignment from the professor to use this software and those specific packages

  • audio (e.g. for wavwrite)
  • signal (e.g. for firls)

The audio package is obsolete and no longer useful, you don't need to install it at all.

Do you know what led you to think that you needed to install the audio package, or what functions you are looking for in Octave?

I get the following error when trying to install the audio package on windows 10.
 pkg install audio-1.1.3.tar.gz
warning: file audio-1.1.3.tar.gz does not exist

I downloaded this package and the newer version audio-1.1.4.tar.gz and tried to install both, with same error. I placed the files in the C:\Octave\Octave-4.2.2\share\octave\packages

folder. I tried looking at documentation to find exactly where to place this .gz file to install it, but could not find any details, so I just put it in the same folder with all other packages.  This is a school assignment so this is why I need the audio package.

I'd appreciate any help you have to offer.
