I think it's referring to the "i" in the first paragraph,

> if A is multi-dimensional and the number of dimensional
> arguments is equal to the dimensions of A, then it is

where each "i" is a dimension of A. But I don't really understand this function.

The mat2cell help text has

Given a single dimensional argument R, the other dimensional arguments are assumed to equal 'size (A,I)'.

This is both inconsistent and incomprehensible.
