I believe that piping the output through "cat" is a sufficient workaround.  Please re-open the bug if you disagree.

I would never have expected that -ls automatically represents non-ASCII bytes as \nnn, because "ls" doesn't do that normally.  If you want to reveal non-graphic characters, you have to use "ls -b".

Though it's not clear to me that there's any gain from -ls behaving like "ls" here.

Could you tell us more about the use case?

Are these characters actually printable, in some locale, but find is not recognising this?    If yes, what do you expect to happen for path names whose text is in inconsistent locales?

If the characters aren't really printable (e.g. they're control codes) what is the security context you anticipate this happening in?

imho it would be better to have choice to print names as-is in normal readable form,
for example git has such option quotepath=false
