Fixed in git (0582f8057e70a99b4caff4cb2aa5e5fffde3f970) a couple of days ago.

Section 2.1.2 Full Name Patterns [1] states under '-regex' that the default regex dialect is "POSIX basic regular expressions", and just below, under '-regextype' it's stated that the default is "Regular expressions compatible with GNU Emacs".  (They differ in at least the support for '\{n,m\}' and '?')

The web documentation [2] still refers to  'posix-basic' regexes as synonym for the undocumented 'ed', but that seems to be fixed in git.
