It would be very nice if the unison interval were also present, though, indeed, it wouldn't fit in either the ascending nor the descending melodic intervals category.

I have, indeed, been thinking, for a long time now, that, these two categories should simply be merged into one, so that, a student that is training their ear, could simply have both types of intervals be played back in a random order by GNU Solfege, which, leads to better ear training, as, more diversity in intervals does lead to better ear training.
