So far as I know, all positional forms are now present.

I added more forms, including one for aleph, in the last post.

Fix posted means I submitted a change to fix the main problem.  I feel free to change it to some other state after.

I only mark things fixed when both I and the reporter have agreed it's quite fixed.  Unfortunately that hasn't often happened, and I haven't been very agressive about it.

I understand how new the positional forms are, and I don’t mean to rush you.

I reported this particular bug because #49293 was marked “Fix Posted”, which I interpret to mean “completely done”.

Hi David,

You found several boo-boos.  These are fixed in SVN.
I simply ran out of steam for the letters after taw, the Persian and Sorgdian ones.

You do understand that exactly what I did last weekend was a "complete overhaul" of most of the letters in this range.  There were no positional forms before.  This is "first light".

I took these letters from a free font (with the necessary permission of the author) quite a few years ago.  At the time I could find precious little information on how the range was supposed to work.  Only recently, one of your bug reports spurred me to look at it again, and I found lots more info has appeared in the Unicode standard.

Anyway, maybe next week I'll look at the rest of the letters.

Thanks!

In FreeSans, some Syriac letters are missing some positional forms.

No final:

  • reversed pe: ܒܧ
  • bheth: ܒܭ
  • ghamal: ܒܮ
  • dhalath: ܒܯ
  • zhain: ܒݍ
  • khaph: ܒݎ
  • fe: ܒݏ

No medial:

  • gamal garshuni: ܒܔܒ
  • reversed pe: ܒܧܒ
  • bheth: ܒܭܒ
  • ghamal: ܒܮܒ
  • khaph: ܒݎܒ
  • fe: ܒݏܒ

No initial:

  • reversed pe: ܧܒ
  • ghamal: ܮܒ

No isolated:

  • ghamal: ܮ

This list says that ghamal has no forms at all. It does have one glyph, but that glyph is a quasi-medial form that doesn’t actually connect to the previous letter. It needs a complete overhaul.

There are other missing initial forms in the font (e.g. there is no 'init' look-up for khaph_sogd_syr) which I didn’t mention here because the basic glyph of e.g. khaph_sogd_syr works as an initial form. It might look better to have distinct isolated and initial forms though.
