without further information, I will close this bug soon, 0.9.4 has been stable on all tested platforms, including Ubuntu.
It might be either a defaults issue or a packaging issue.

Sorry - I need more information. I did test GWorkspace on ubuntu and it works for me (tm).

Are you using Ubuntu packages? or self-compiled ones?
Were you running a previous version of GWorkspace? In the latter case, it would be nice if you can remove previous preferences and see if it works.

defaults delete GWorkspace

should be enough.
