Ah, no -- it does lose all colors, it just doesn't refresh the screen after the change of name.  It does refresh the screen when a new syntax is matched.

If for some reason the user does not have a default syntax defined, and upon saving a file it no longer matches any extension nor header nor magic, then the file stays colored the way it is, instead of losing all color.

This may be acceptable, but it was somewhat surprising.
"Bug" is present since at least 2.2.4.
