The import is only done with all work saved.
now in 2.0.1

The longer term thing would be to examine the possibility of defining #{ etc in the scheme environment which the imput parser is using.... the "etc" in this case might involve a lot of definitions that LilyPond provides, without which there will be no way of swallowing the correct amount of input after the # token is found.

I've pushed a fix that means that ordinary LilyPond output from Denemo avoids that problematic syntax.
It would be good to add a check that everything was saved before risking the parser hanging (unless the problem could be solved in the parser ... difficult to see how - what does Frescobaldi do to parse over embedded scheme?)

Not all LilyPond files are failing - Denemo's own ones are and it seems to be this syntax:

DenemoGlobalTranspose = #(define-music-function (parser location arg)(ly:music?) #{\transpose c c #arg #})

That is causing the parsing to hang - my guess is that the first # causes the parser to ask the guile expression reader to exhaust the stuff that follows, but that stuff contains the #{ #} syntax which is not Scheme but special LilyPond syntax. So this then causes guile to throw an error and no recovery appears to be made from it.

It seems to lock in a thread wait.
This seems to be true for several versions past. currently 2.0.1
