Retagging release from 4.0.0-rc4 to 4.0.0.

Oops, you are right. I forgot that it is
only print that fails.  Sorry!

No, it's exactly the same as bug #42838. On-screen plots look correct with gnuplot 5, plots printed to a file have a black background.

Actually, this appears to be a different problem
from the Mac OS problem reported in bug #42838.

In Fedora 22:

>> version

ans = 4.0.0

>> graphics_toolkit('gnuplot')
>> demo plot

works correctly for both gnuplot-5.0 installs.
For some reason Fedora 22 offers:
gnuplot-5.0.0-8.fc22.x86_64
and
gnuplot-wx-5.0.0-8.fc22.x86_64

Both provide /usr/bin/gnuplot, but gnuplot-wx also provides
/usr/bin/gnuplot-wx

The only difference appears to be that gnuplot
sets the terminal type qt and gnulot-wx
sets the terminal type to wxt

So, this bug report is reporting that the use of
gnuplot when creating the user Manual has an error
which shows up if the version of gnuplot is 5.0.
And, therefore, it should be reopened.

Ok, great! So yes, this is all good news, Fedora 22 has resolved the problems with the Intel video drivers, plotting with OpenGL should be better. Closing as a duplicate of bug #42838 since that is the only remaining problem reported here.

Right!

Fedora 22 is:  gnuplot-wx-5.0.0-8.fc22.x86_64

And, yes, the plots contain black background.

So, the good news is useful. Plotting both local
and remote seems all OK with fltk/qt.  No more
environment variable needed and no hangs.

If I had to guess, it's that gnuplot is now version 5 in Fedora 22, is that correct?

Do the plots contain an entirely black background and your installed version of gnuplot is 5.0 or newer? If so, then see bug #42838. Note that gnuplot is still used for generating the plots for the manual because at least one of them contains TeX markup which does not yet render correctly with gl2ps.

Fedora 21 required the environment variable:
export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1
to be set in order to produce correct print of plots,
using fltk or qt.

Fedora 22 produces plots with NO plot data if
this environment variable is set, both locally and remote.

However, without the variable, plotting and printing
is correct, both locally and through ssh to remote.

This is all for a Fedora 22 system with Intel graphics,
both HD 5000 and HD 6000.

However, now the plots generated for the Manual are all empty
whether the environment variable is set of not!

Since plots work using the generated octave it is not clear
why they fail during the build.  Is an environment variable
set during the plot generation for the Manual?

In any case, this is mainly good news. fltk and qt plotting appears to work both locally and remotely without any
"special" environment variable.
