As per a comment from Miguel in the mailing list
" This is a known issue due to some recent hack to fix CPU issues on some systems.

Try commenting line 166

#define QT_CPU_FIX 1

in src/src/Kernel/Abstractions/basic.hpp

And recompile."

This indeed fixes CPU load up to r9719.

From r9720 on, you get "undefined references" if either
- you try to apply this fix
- you do not explicitly set  ./configure --enable-qtpipes
and CPU load is high.

The behavior of recent builds on my linux machine is strikingly different from what it was last december when I had last build texmacs: Now texmacs constantly uses 92% of one core, even when idle (previously it was using 0% when idle).

I checked it is not due to settings my ~./TeXmacs directory.
My OS a mint 17 (based on ubuntu 14.04), Mate desktop,  x86-64. The Qt version on that distribution is 4.8.6.
