I personnally prefer(.ed, I don't work on mac anymore) to stick to command line and use fltk. If you are happy with gnuplot then you may build without openGL support.
Anyways, AFAIK GraphicsMagick is used for image manipulation (reading/writing) not for plotting/printing and I don't know if it is an optionnal dependency.

This may be the same as 40242, which has been open almost a year. It doesn't seem to be the same as 42596.

I'm aware of gnuplot.

But, as long as this but remains, should we be building octave on Mac os against fltk and qt? I ask because, as 42596 suggests, getting octave to compile with qt (and graphicsmagick) is a Herculean task on Mac os x. It took me three days, and if I could pull those dependencies Out of the configure line id be pleased as punch.

Thanks for your bug report. This is a known bug and it has already been reported (see bug #42596 and bug # 40242).
As you correctly tagged this bug "OpenGL", I assume that you know you still can switch to gnuplot graphics_toolkit in order to plot when the gui is enabled.

Closing bug report.

Using opengl to plot (fresh install of 3.8.2 on mac os x), from the gui calling sombrero() or peaks() causes the plotting window to open upside*down -- that is, the symbols for zoom, pan, etc, are inverted and at the top of the window, and so forth.  Then, after perhaps 30 seconds loading, the gui crashes before it draws anything.

Plotting from the command line, the windows and graphs do draw properly, although they spit errors about fonts.
