This small lack of colour is solved by patch file #29172, attached to bug #26977.

Put this in a file, say comments.c:
/* Comment */
/* Comment */
/* Comment */
/* Comment */
Export CFLAGS="-g -O0", configure and compile nano.
Open the file with src/nano and see how the first
line isn't coloured. Delete any of the four lines,
and see how now all lines are coloured.
