You are free to use Gnuplot or FLTK.  It is unlikely
that Gnuplot can be made better due to limitations in
Gnuplot.

For most people FLTK works well, and is being improved.

I came to the conclusion that my best bet was to work the data through Octave and then plot it through Gnuplot. It is obstructed at best, but it works. Octave only needs, in my opinion, to perfect its communication with Gnuplot.

fltk line anti-aliasing has been fixed as per patch #8259, though it's been applied to gui-release only (v.4.0) -- maybe it should be backported to stable, to be available in 3.8.1?  it was applied on Dec 16, before the Jan 1st date of release of 3.8.0.

maybe you were also experiencing the fltk problems reported in bug #41583.

One comment about Qt/gnuplot.  Going pretty far back, gnuplot has desired an interactive terminal.  There were attempts with one or two packages (they may still be available).  But these things wither on the vine because the packages become out-of-date.  My feeling is that Qt looks like it may be the first legitimate candidate for an interactive gnuplot temrinal even though there is no effort there right now because gnuplot's developer base is quite small.  But again, the big issue is communication between program components: defining data, coordinating protocols, debugging, testing.  All else pales in terms of development.

I have tentatively closed this bug report as invalid, since the b bug title and the description are vague and overly general. We do have two usable plotting engines, as evidenced by all the people who use them, and there is no clear goal for what kind of thing needs to happen to close this bug report.

If you disagree or can propose a clear goal for what the bug report should be, we can reopen this.

The antialiasing of OpenGL depends on your graphics card. It's just an artifact of onscreen-rendering. When you print the plot, it should look ok.

The clipboard functionality you seek is "print", isn't it?

There are many vital features that we need; this just happens to be your own highest priority. We get more requests for a GUI than this, and you may be surprised to know this, but we also get frequent requests to not abandon gnuplot at all.

It's difficult to please everyone. But we try:

Developers are aware of this.  There is a lot of work right now in getting a GUI in place and it uses Qt.  You could experiment with gnuplot's Qt terminal and see if that does the necessary anti-aliasing.  However, it's a long way to go on this because interactive support requires a big investment in communication between the application and core code.

I have been trying to find an interactive plotter (selected via graphics toolkit) but I have not been able to succeed.

Here I list problems that occur with the shells I have tried:

gnuplot through X11
 - Graphics are slow (there is no GPU acceleration)
 - Sometimes titles are printed off screen, or other text
 - Sometimes replotting (by pressing a) does not replot, it just removes the graph
 - Graphics are not antialiased and there is no way to antialias them.
 - There is no clipboard functionality. One must be able to copy a graph directly from the shell without having to take a screenshot and edit it.

gnuplot through wxt
 - Graphics could be faster, there is also no GPU acceleration with this shell
 - Sometimes titles are printed off screen, or other text
 - Sometimes replotting (by pressing a) does not replot, it just removes the graph

fltk
 - Graphics are not antialiased and there is no way to antialias them.
 - There is no clipboard functionality. One must be able to copy a graph directly from the shell without having to take a screenshot and edit it.

The purpose of this bug report is to bring attention to this point, since it is a vital feature. The development community should focus on one shell and make it work perfectly. It is odd to have a mathematical analysis application that can't plot ok.
