When using GNU parallel with the --quote option, the empty string argument is skipped. Here is an example:

parallel -q --nonall perl -le 'print scalar @ARGV' 'a' 'b' ''

The output is:

Here is the command without using parallel:

perl -le 'print scalar @ARGV' 'a' 'b' ''

The output is:
