I couldn't reproduce the problem. Maybe I didn't understand the description or this has been fixed at some point (possibly as a side effect of something else) ?

1) start a match and make a few moves.
2) when you see player A's dice, click edit
3) Change the position.
4) click in the dice area and choose dice for player B.

The original chequer arrangement reappears. If you do the same with players A and B switched, it works as expected
