$ grep spell ~/.nanorc
set speller "aspell -x -c"

Hi Mike,

Did you override the default speller? Normally it's spell, not aspell. I do get this when I use 'nano -s aspell' but not for 'nano -s "aspell -c"' ven in an empty file. Interested in hearing more details on this.

this is a minor issue, but if you run `nano` and then spell check (CTRL+T), the status message is:
Spell checking failed: Error invoking "aspell"

perhaps nano should avoid sending 0 byte buffers to the spell checker ?
