Hi there,

GNUpod does not mount or unmount any device.

Two possible error sources come to mind:

A) The device was indeed remounted read-only. This can happen
if a device has hardware errors. You should check the output of "dmesg" to see if there is any kernel output indicating problems with your device. I've had my share of problems with aging notebooks where the USB ports died one by one ...

B) Did you check if the device was indeed mounted read-only after the error occurred? The error message of GNUpod could be wrong. I didn't check the code yet and seeing that you left no means of contacting you I will not spend too much time on the issue unless "A)" can be ruled out first. But if the write error is not simply passed on by GNUpod, the error could be caused by something else, e.g. a full filesystem.

Mounted iPod (on /media/IPOD), verified that it was read/write. Ran:

gnupod_addsong.pl --restore -m /media/IPOD

Goes through 5000+ songs, then bombs out with this:

> Writing new XML File, added 5263 file(s)
Could not write to '/media/IPOD/iPod_Control/.gnupod/GNUtunesDB.xml_tmp_1268999089' : Read-only file system

It looks like your code is re-mounting the iPod filesystem as read-only, so it can't write the XML file. Tried it several times, all with same results.
