"Is there anything that really needs to be done before the next release or can we postpone this item?"

I think it can wait.

I'm working on a fairly major change to GtkSheet which should fix this problem.  But I don't know when it'll be ready.

Is there anything that really needs to be done before the next release or can we postpone this item?

I've committed this patch.  I've renamed the title of this item, and I'm leaving it open to remind me to look at these things again.

I think the patch is an improvement, though problems 1 and 2
above should be fixed eventually. I seem to remember experiencing problem 1 before the patch.

Also, I can't use the arrow keys to move the focus across columns. 'sorry to add to the list of nits.

... however, it has some other undesirable effects.

1. If you scroll down below the last case, cases get automatically created.

2. If you have really wide columns, then scrolling horizontally behaves in a really weird way.

Maybe people will be prepared to accept this?  If not, then some more work will be required.

You can change this behaviour with this simple patch.

For an active file which can't be displayed on one screen, scroll the focus down a column with the arrow key. When the focus reaches the bottom of the screen, it continues and disappears. The scrollbar doesn't move to keep the view over the focus, on screen.
