Temporary workaround: since the characters are output unchanged when stdout is not a terminal, you can do this to achieve the same effect:

find ....... -print | cat

piping the output through cat simply works around the real problem, which is the lack of adequate control over what find is doing.

Currently (in the development code) find will hide control characters when stdout (or the output file for -fprint and friends) is a tty. We should have options to control this default (e.g. turn it fully on or fully off).

Similarly for locate.

Suggestion from Dmitry V. Levin.
